It’s not enough to produce great content sporadically, but developing a consistent posting schedule helps you stay relevant and build trust with your audience over time.

Without a strong “why,” it becomes easy to lose focus or burn out when the process gets tough.

To truly succeed, you need more than just the title of a content creator.

You need a genuine reason that drives you, something that keeps you going even when the excitement fades.

Your “why” gives your content meaning and connects you with your audience on a deeper level.

So what is your Why? Whether it is to promote your business, to share knowledge, or build a personal brand, knowing your “why” will give you direction.

Pick a niche. Pick something you are passionate about or interested in learning.

Personally, I’m passionate about entrepreneurship and content creation, that’s why I love to create content around them.

I’m also very passionate about social media, you’ll notice it if you consume my YouTube videos often.

Starting with a focused area helps you position yourself as an expert and attract an audience that cares about your content.

3.Choose your Platform

For example, TikTok is known for having a large Gen Z user base, though other generations also use the platform. It simply attracts more Gen Z users than any other demographic.

Meanwhile, Baby Boomers are more familiar with Facebook, while Millennials tend to gravitate toward Instagram.

Every platform has its style, audience, and strengths.

You also need to understand platform intent.

For instance, people who visit YouTube generally expect to watch longer videos, unless they’re browsing Shorts.

On the other hand, TikTok users are seeking quick, concise content that gets straight to the point.

To keep your audience engaged, ensure your content matches the format and expectations of the platform.

Pro tip: Choose one platform or two to focus on when you are just starting to avoid being overwhelmed.

4. Develop your Content Style

You need your own voice, you need to be distinguishable from the plethora of creators.

You need to find a way to stand out from the noise, So what will it be? Focus on brand consistency.

Will your content be educational, funny, inspiring or casual? Whatever you choose to do, keep a consistent tone across your posts so your audience knows what to expect.

Don’t try to be funny today when you’ve shared in a casual tone for the past few weeks, it confuses people.

Consistency in your tone and style is key to building trust with your audience.

Sudden changes in how you communicate can make your content feel disjointed, leaving your followers unsure of what to expect.

Stick to a voice that aligns with your brand, whether it’s casual, professional, or humorous, and gradually evolve it if necessary.

That doesn’t mean you can’t experiment or grow, but any shifts in tone should be subtle and purposeful.

I’m not messing with you, hear me out.

If you are going to be publishing videos on TikTok or YouTube, you need to be able to film and edit your videos.

If you are going to be writing blog posts, you need to be able to write.

If you’re posting designs, you need to be able to design.

You don’t need to be an expert, but learning some key tools can help. Let’s look at some of the skills you need to have.

This skill is very essential because design is a major part of the work you’d be doing.

From YouTube thumbnails, to channel art covers, Instagram posts, Facebook covers, ad banners, Pinterest images, etc. there’s a lot of work to do.

You can not always give these to a graphics designer to do for you.

Sometimes, you need to design on the spot. Your best bet is Canva.

Tools like Canva can help you create professional-looking visuals with ease.

3. Video Editing

As I said earlier, you don’t need to be an expert when you start, you just need to learn the ropes.

If you are working with clients who have zero tolerance for shabby jobs, you’ll need to up your game.

That’s why there are tons of courses and even free tutorials on video editing.

Now that video is the most preferred content format, the bulk of your work as a content creator will be editing tons of videos.

So you need to know how to edit, you also need to know how to film.

Apps like InShot and CapCut are great for mobile video editing.

As a content creator, you will be writing copies like crazy.

From writing catchy headlines to great call-to-actions, to selling with your words, to persuading people with your copies, etc. copywriting is an essential skill for you as a copywriter.

Reverse engineer successful posts to see what works and how you can apply similar techniques.

Do NOT, I repeat, do not copy other people’s work.

Sometimes, the line between inspiration and plagiarism is blurred, you want to be extremely careful.

You can copy principles, but not application.

If you want to stand out, stand out because of your creativity, not because you are the best at copying and pasting.

Then experiment with different formats, videos, blog posts, infographics, or carousel posts to see what resonates with your audience.
